About This Spot

Boondocks Fish Camp & Smoke House greets you like a well-kept secret nestled just off the beaten path in Gray Court, South Carolina. Arriving here, you step into a place where the pace slows down, inviting conversation and the kind of comfort that settles deep in your bones. The modest exterior gives way to a lively but unpretentious dining room filled with the hum of shared stories and the occasional warm laughter that feels like the soundtrack of a local gathering.

This is a spot where the air carries the rich, smoky scent of barbecue mingling effortlessly with the ocean breeze hinted at by freshly grilled seafood. You’re not just here for a meal — you’re tapping into a regional rhythm that honors tradition while embracing the joy in simple, hearty flavors. Plates come out steaming and generous, often featuring ribs glazed with a smoky tang or shrimp that taste as if they’ve just been pulled from coastal waters nearby. Side dishes like crisp hush puppies and slow-smoked baked beans add character to every bite, echoing the sense of a welcoming table shared with neighbors and friends.

Inside, the service strikes a balance between attentive and relaxed, with hosts and servers who make you feel genuinely seen — like you’ve arrived at a friend’s place rather than a restaurant. The small touches, from the warm greetings at the door to the friendly check-ins throughout your meal, weave a thread of familiarity into a setting that’s at once casual and heartfelt.

Outside, views of the country setting lend a quiet charm that makes lingering over iced tea or lemonade all the easier. Whether you’re there to savor expertly smoked ribs or the delicate texture of perfectly broiled fish, Boondocks quietly reminds you why some of the most memorable meals are those shared in the gentle company of good food and unpretentious hometown warmth.

I decided I wanted something different for my "birthday dinner" this year and this place did not disappoint. Can't say enough about how good the food was. Our waitress Kendra provided stellar service and the girls upfront made us feel welcome as soon we walked in. We will be seeing you again very soon.

Highly recommended and well worth the drive. Everything we had was fantastic. The prices are reasonable and the servings are large. We will definitely be returning!

Found this gem of a fish camp/ smoke house in the Boondocks thanks to Google maps…and so happy we went! The seafood was so fresh and had great flavor. The shrimp tasted like shrimp, fried oysters truly tasted like fresh from the beach fried oysters (was told they have them seasonally due to only serving fresh oysters)the flounder was fried perfectly- lightly golden fried and just flaked away…delicious! We’re looking forward to our next visit very soon. I would only suggest some beach and country music playing in the background and although traditionally fish camps don’t serve beer- a good cold beer would have been the cherry on the cake. Thanks for a great meal and Thank you Kendra for the great service!

Might have found my go to Fish Camp Folks My neighbor had been telling me that I should visit since I love Seafood restaurants.Well I took his advice and I am so Happy for the advice. This place was out in the Country and a local favorite.Waiting room was packed but actually wasn't a long wait to be seated. I ordered the Combo of Flounder and Shrimp OMG so tasty. Now they also have Barbecue with all the trimmings. Well worth the drive and the Service was great (Corey) so give Boondocks a visit

Cute restaurant with a pretty view out back. The waitress was sweet. It was our first visit, so we tried a variety. The catfish came highly recommended , so we tried it. I didn't like it. Everything else was delicious! The scallops were the best I have had in years! They do not have sodas of any kind. Water, tea or lemonade only. The biggest issue I had was I was freezing in there. It wasn't just me. My husband is never cold, and he was cold. We really want to give it another shot, but we will dress warmer.

What a nice little place! First time comming and the food is hot, fresh and delicious! Got the Calibash chicken, very tender and juicy. Hush puppies were amazing as well as the slaw and Okra! Can’t wait to be back! Thanks!

I've never liked fried green tomatoes but tried their's I would definitely have again. Homemade pickles are good. Had the fried catfish and flounder plate.

Boondocks has a great atmosphere. The restaurant is set among pecan trees and has a pond in the back. Reminds me of fish camps in Mississippi. This was our first visit. The staff was super. Kendra was our server and was awesome. They were very helpful and attentive. The food was excellent. My wife and I had the catfish fillets and my mother had the shrimp scampi and flounder. The fried catfish had a choice of flour or salt and pepper. I wish they used cornmeal, but very good none the less. We are definitely going back. I am handicapped, and the restaurant has an asphalt parking lot and I had no issues accessing the restaurant.
